The entire reason I came to Seattle was to pursue this job offer I got after searching for a really long time. So when I got an offer I jumped at the chance because it was either this, or I would be flipping burgers while my degree hung on a wall crying.
When I applied all I knew was that I was qualified for the job and that was just about enough at the time. But when I got the offer I looked into the company a little more. It certainly isn't what I thought I would be doing with my life.
Like I said the company is called Beautiful Break-Up. It is a company that people can call up and hire other people to break-up with their boyfriend or girlfriend so they don't have to. What's more their tagline is "Love Is Hard. We Make It Easy." I honestly thought this was some joke but it turns out my boss Carolyn Eves started the business up three years ago and people really took to it. So naturally a growing business is looking to expand which is why I caught a break.
The job title I now have is officially a "Third-Party Ender." That is just a fancy name for the people who do all the "dirty work," as Carolyn says. My job requirements include dealing with people on a personal, intimate, level, traveling all around the city, and delivering potentially bad news to the "Client's Other," or as Carolyn jokingly called them "targets."
My training today consisted of an introduction to the office and spending most of the day watching those videos on sexual harassment and office conduct found in any business around the country. At the end I was given a large packet that I have to read tonight that will prepare me for role-playing scenarios that we are going over tomorrow. So I have to go read that now and learn how to become an expert about breaking up with people that I don't know.
Off to read, prepare, and bed. Oh and check out my fancy business card. This makes it real. I actually have a job now.
